Start with what you already have

Choose a folder for income statements and a separate place for questions. Keep original documents accessible. This preview does not accept uploads.

Make an income inventory

Write down the places you worked and the different ways you earned money. Match the statements you receive to that list. If something seems missing or incorrect, ask the issuer or your preparer what to do next.

Bring last year into the picture

If available, keep a copy of your prior return. It can provide useful context; your current circumstances may be different.

Leave room for questions

You do not need to solve every tax question before asking for help. Note changes in work, household, or income and discuss them with your preparer.
